Our Family Tree

A dear friend and I collaborated to create this family tree idea for Super Saturday last year and I finally got around to putting mine togetha.  I scraped a previous peeling quote off this 12 inch tile and reused it, always good. The original idea was to have little pictures, but I didn't want to frame mine and couldn't figure out a way to do pictures that would be long lasting on a tile. I used double layered vinyl circles instead over this swirly tree. I love being able to teach my kids little by little about their family tree and this was a good way to start for us.

I Love to See the Temple

I will find a solution to the hard-to-read tan vinyl mistake at the bottom later. For now, I am happy to put more temples on the wall for my kids to see every day! Cutting this vinyl temple was fun and challenging, having to pick all the little details.

Although I'm not a huge fan of the width of vertical paper lines compared to my lettering, I do love this quote and wanted to put it on the wall!

Keys, Please.

I CHRONICALLY lose my keys. I do much better with a specific place to always put them... enter, key holder. I used a super old, cheapy wooden frame, leftover fabric scrap, paint for the hooks, a scrapbook paper scrap and vinyl letter. I love using up crafty leftovers!

Updated Name Board

Awhile back I added polka dot borders to these name boards so I thought it was worth an update.

Family Birthday Board

My husband has been practically begging me to make one of these... A project my husband is supporting, no, asking for? How could I resist? He has a hard time remembering important birthdays so hopefully this helps us be more mindful of our family members. My kids have been particularly interested in learning about their family members that are far away so I hope this helps them as well.

I had cut and routered this board a while ago so it just took designing vinyl, inserting the hooks, and making the birthday circles. I made it to match the colors of my neutral family home evening board since we don't know what our next apartment will be like.

I love having it on the wall! I promise only the picture is crooked...

80s Cake

My husband turned 30 this year. What better way to celebrate getting old by remembering what it was like to feel young? My husband loves the 80s... his favorite music and movies are from the 80s and I thought it would be hilarious to have an 80s party with our friends and make this 80s cake!! It was fun to make!

Felt Board for Children

I love love love love that I put together these felt activities for my kids. They have been a big hit. I stole many of my ideas from Pintrest but made them my own. I didn't need templates, I just went to town on my big box of leftover felt that I've had taking up space in my craft closet forever. It didn't take me long at all and was fun to do. My three-year-old and sixteen-month-old go berserk for these and I pull them out often.

I made felt boards out of the shallow wooden boxes that a pair of Melissa and Doug magnet dress-up dolls came in. I have had them stashed forever and finally found a use for them! I spray-glued felt on the back and they make great individual boards. I might also glue some felt in the compartments on the other side for some fun.

 

I also made a simple travel felt board for church in a laminated file folder. Not super pretty, but functional. I just glued and stapled the felt in. Easy sneezy.

All the pieces are kept in individual, quart size baggies and they fit into a basket on a shelf in my closet. I may sew the bottoms of the bags together into a book with a cover for convenience. We love these!

Personal favorite... Human body organs and bones. 

Cupcakes. I am making little cards with cupcake templates to copy too.

Shapes. I have shape sorting sheets I use with these and we like to make pictures and patterns. 

 

Seasonal Tree. I am making snowy branches for this one too.

Easter Egg Decorating and Counting. Some of these pieces have mysteriously disappeared...

Weaving. I may glue the edges down on a separate sheet of felt to make it easier to weave. I remember having something similar in my nice quiet book as a child.

Glass Temple Block

I had a few of these left over from Super Saturday and thought I might try etching them... I like how it turned out! It is simple and calm. I didn't get great pictures, but together these cover it. I'm always happy to have more reminders of the temple in the house.

Attempt at Barbie Clothes

As my daughter has discovered the world of Barbies, I have discovered how expensive and immodest Barbie clothes are! Dah! I have a pretty good stash from when I was a child, but thought I would experiment with making a few clothing items myself (mostly so when I go to by some I can resist and make them myself). I am NOT a good seamstress, and sewing on such a small scale made it worse, but it was fun to try.

Skirt (I didn't make the shirt). I made a bunch of these skirts because they were pretty easy.  

Bibs Galore

A while ago I made preschool aprons (like the one in the center of the picture below) and had some extra fabric to make baby and toddler bibs. I love the mid-size ones, especially with the pocket, and use them like crazy right now. I also finished another preschool apron and a random apron for me I started YEARS ago. I was so lazy and didn't want to make straps so I finally thought to just finish it with ribbon and get it OVER WITH. Yay.

 

 

Christmas Crafts

Here are this year's crop of Christmas crafts so far. I am especially proud that I used only leftover wood, blocks, ribbon, paint and vinyl sitting around in my craft room. I really have to use up stuff before I move! My husband has been traveling a lot so I have been getting some really good therapy out of my current craft projects...

 What do you do with a bunch of free cut blocks taking up space upstairs? Snowmen, I guess. I couldn't decide which version I liked better, so I made both designs to give away. I like that the kids can play with them, stacking and unstacking the snowman!

 I love it when I finally find a use for old cheapy craft junk. I had this Let it Snow sign and snowflake from like seven years ago from a dollar store and never could figure out what to do with them. Now I have something for January!
